We had a minah bird once, & all he ever learned to say was "STRIKE ONE!", but you could hear his wolf whistle for several blocks!

Be very careful, then, how you live,

making the most of every opportunity,

Therefore do not be foolish,
but understand what the Lord's will is.

THE TRAIN OF LIFE

(Mute Playlist first)

"The Train of Life"

Some folks ride the train of life looking out the rear,
Watching miles of life roll by and marking every year.

They sit in sad remembrance of wasted days gone by,
And curse their life for what it was and hang their head and cry.

But I don't concern myself with that, I took a different vent,
I look forward to what life holds and not what has been spent.

So strap me to the engine, as securely as I can be,
I want to be out on the front, to see what I can see.

I want to feel the winds of change, blowing in my face,
I want to see what life unfolds, as I move from place to place.

I want to see what's coming up, not looking at the past,
Life's too short for yesterdays, it moves along too fast.

So if the ride gets bumpy, while you are looking back,
Go up front, and you may find, your life has jumped the track.

It's all right to remember, that's part of history,
But up front's where it's happening, there's so much mystery.

The enjoyment of living is not where we have been,
It's looking ever forward to another year and ten.

It's searching all the byways, never should you refrain,
For if you want victorious life, just let God drive the train.

(Okay, so I edited the last line. To be fair, the last line
actually said:
'For if you want to live your life, you gotta drive the train.'
It's a great poem, but I like my last line better).
How about you?

SCRIPTURE for SUNDAY

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before Him with joyful songs,
Know that the Lord is God.
It is He who made us, and we are His;
we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving
and His courts with praise;
give thanks to Him and praise His name.
For the Lord is good
and His love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues
through all generations. Psalm 100

SAD OBITUARY

Please join me in a moment of silence in remembrance
of Common Sense, who served us all so well for many generations.

OBITUARY........Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain, Why the early bird gets the worm, Life isn't always fair, and Maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentions but, overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home but the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility, and his son, Reason.

He is survived by three stepbrothers: I know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm a Victim; and one stepsister, I Don't Need to Pay My Debts.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

SCRIPTURE for SUNDAY

Give thanks to the Lord,
for He is good;
His love endures forever.
Let them give thanks to the Lord
for His unfailing love,
and His wonderful deeds
for men.
for He satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry
with good things.
Psalm 107:1 , 8 & 9
The 107th Psalm is an exhortation of praise celebrating God's unfailing benevolence toward those who have cried to Him in the crises of their lives.
Verse 8 is repeated again in 15, 21 and 31.
The chapter concluded (v.43) with this instruction:
Whoever is wise,
let him heed these things
and consider the great love
of the Lord.

When I read this Psalm, the three words that just leap from the page are...
'GOD'S UNFAILING LOVE'.
How wonderful it is to know that our great God never changes.
He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

THE LOST COIN

"Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?" Luke 15:8

When I was a child, my mother was known for her persistence. If something was lost, we would all launch a search around the house and yard, but if it hadn't been found in a reasonable amount of time, we went on to other things... but, not my mother! She would continue to look and look, and would not give up until she had found it!

This parable is one of three with the same theme: The Father's yearning love for the lost. It also reveals what our own attitude should be toward the lost.
In the illustration, the sinner is likened to a valuable coin that has been lost.

The coin in this parable was the equivalent of a day's wages. Since floors in that time and place were made of dirt, it could be very difficult to find!
Just as the woman needed light in her search for the lost coin, Jesus provides the light for sinners to be found of God.

"And when she had found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!' In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:9-10

Every soul is precious to God, and there is rejoicing in heaven over each one that repents. What did the woman do when she found her coin? She called her friends and neighbors, because she just had to share her good news!

This parable gives us the whole plan of salvation; and the reason Christ came.

SMART

***

If you read yester-day's silly thing about money, you'll need to read this, because here's a little guy that has it all figured out......

SMART
(by Shel Silverstein)

My dad gave me one dollar bill
'Cause I'm his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
'Cause two is more than one!

And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes--I guess he don't know
That three is more than two!

Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just 'cause he can't see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!

And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four!

And then I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head--
Too proud of me to speak!

One Thing Have I Desired of the Lord (Maranatha Music)
(Please mute Playlist)

PSALM 27
(David's triumphantly confident prayer to God for deliverance)
The Lord is my light and my salvation --
--whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life--
--of whom shall I be afraid?
When evil men advance against me
to devour my flesh,
when my enemies and my foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.
Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then will I be confident.

One thing I ask of the Lord,
this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to seek Him in His temple.
For in the day of trouble
He will keep me safe in His dwelling;
He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle
and set me high upon a rock.
Then my head will be exalted
above the enemies who surround me;
at His tabernacle will I sacrifice with
shouts of joy;
I will sing and make music to the Lord.

Hear my voice when I call, O Lord;
be merciful to me and answer me.
My heart says of you,
"Seek His face!"
Your face, Lord, I will seek.
Do not hide your face from me,
do not turn your servant away in anger;
you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
O God my Savior.
Though my father and mother forsake me,
the Lord will receive me.
Teach me your way, O Lord;
lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors.
Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
for false witnesses rise up against me,
breathing out violence.

I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.

DON'T BE ANXIOUS

I love this verse! But the next verse is even better....

..and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:7)

What a beautiful promise!

MORE CUTE PICS

***

In a zoo in California , a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans to be found quickly were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies near the mother tiger. Would they become cubs or pork chops?

Take a look... you won't believe your eyes!!

Now please tell me one more time.....
Why can't the rest of the world get along?

A-MEN!

***

Years ago, when we lived in Leesburg, Florida, a singing group called 'The Spurlows' performed at our church. Near the close of the program, they announced that their drummer, Larnelle Harris, would sing a solo. He sang 'A-men!' Wow! What a voice! As, I'm sure you are aware, he went on to have a tremendous career as a Christian music solo artist. He has received 5 Grammys, 11 Dove awards, has had 19 No. 1 radio singles, plus countless other awards and recognitions, & a year ago was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
I once heard him sing one of my all-time favorites, 'The Lord is My Light'...taken from the very words of Psalm 27. This particular version has quite a range, and is a real challenge to sing! I have searched and searched, but have been unable to find a recording of it.
The song on the Playlist, with lyrics given below, may not be as well known as others by Larnelle, but is one we all can relate to.

(Words and music are by Larnelle Harris, Dave Clark and Nick Robertson.)

When Fear Comes Knocking

Deep inside these walls I've built
Around this heart of mine
You'd think that I'd be more secure
After all this time.

But when I hear the crashing sound of thunder
I know the storms are drawing closer
I'm reminded once more
That whatever's at the door...

When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.
When life comes calling,
that's the only way.
To stir to life the power
That is found in Jesus' name
When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.

Looking back on what I've learned
Through the storms I've faced
That God will not leave us alone
When we need His strength.

And right at the point where we are weakest
That's the place He comes to meet us.
The power that we need
You know it comes when we believe.

When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.
When life comes calling
That's the only way
To stir to life the power
That is found in Jesus' name.
When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.

They say the only thing to fear
Is fear alone.
But in my weakness He is strong
And in His strength, I'll carry on;
I'll carry on.

When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.
When life comes calling
That's the only way
To stir to life the power
That is found in Jesus' name
When fear comes knocking,
Answer it with faith.

DEAR LITTLE DEER

***

Meet a deer little handful called Rupert who was delivered by Caesarean section after his mother was killed by a car. (Above picture is Rupert in an incubator at five days old).
He is growing up without a mother's love. But this tiny muntjac fawn appears to be a survivor.

The little orphan was just 6" tall and weighed just over a pound at birth.

It looked like he, too, would face a tough fight for survival, but staff at Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Buckinghamshire believe 'Rupert', as he has been named, will make a full recovery after his dramatic arrival.
Did you ever see anything so adorable?

SIGNS of FALL

***

Signs of Fall around my house....

(Ceramic basket: A gift from (& painted by) my daughter, Jami)

(I'm afraid the large bow hides all the goodies in this basket in the living room.)

(Bill brought home these squash & pumpkins. It wouldn't seem like fall without an assortment of these on the table!)

There is such beauty in the colors of Fall that we see all around us...in the fruits, vegetables, and especially the leaves as they begin to change colors.

For The Beauty Of The Earth
(beautifully sung on Playlist by St. Philip's Boys Choir)

For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of light,
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth, and friends above,
Pleasures pure and undefiled,
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For each perfect gift of Thine,
To our race so freely given,
Graces human and divine,
Flowers of earth and buds of heaven,
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

'PIANO MAN'

***

This is a seven-year-old performing his version of Billy Joel's 'Piano Man'.
He's so cute!
I'd give him high marks just for being able to stand in one spot for nearly six minutes, but not only has he mastered all of the many verses of this song, he accompanies himself on the harmonica, as well.
