Years ago, when we lived in Leesburg, Florida, a singing group called 'The Spurlows' performed at our church. Near the close of the program, they announced that their drummer, Larnelle Harris, would sing a solo. He sang 'A-men!' Wow! What a voice! As, I'm sure you are aware, he went on to have a tremendous career as a Christian music solo artist. He has received 5 Grammys, 11 Dove awards, has had 19 No. 1 radio singles, plus countless other awards and recognitions, & a year ago was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
I once heard him sing one of my all-time favorites, 'The Lord is My Light'...taken from the very words of Psalm 27. This particular version has quite a range, and is a real challenge to sing! I have searched and searched, but have been unable to find a recording of it.
The song on the Playlist, with lyrics given below, may not be as well known as others by Larnelle, but is one we all can relate to.
(Words and music are by Larnelle Harris, Dave Clark and Nick Robertson.)
When Fear Comes Knocking
Deep inside these walls I've built
Around this heart of mine
You'd think that I'd be more secure
After all this time.
But when I hear the crashing sound of thunder
I know the storms are drawing closer
I'm reminded once more
That whatever's at the door...
When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.
When life comes calling,
that's the only way.
To stir to life the power
That is found in Jesus' name
When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.
Looking back on what I've learned
Through the storms I've faced
That God will not leave us alone
When we need His strength.
And right at the point where we are weakest
That's the place He comes to meet us.
The power that we need
You know it comes when we believe.
When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.
When life comes calling
That's the only way
To stir to life the power
That is found in Jesus' name.
When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.
They say the only thing to fear
Is fear alone.
But in my weakness He is strong
And in His strength, I'll carry on;
I'll carry on.
When fear comes knocking
Answer it with faith.
When life comes calling
That's the only way
To stir to life the power
That is found in Jesus' name
When fear comes knocking,
Answer it with faith.
