"Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?" Luke 15:8
When I was a child, my mother was known for her persistence. If something was lost, we would all launch a search around the house and yard, but if it hadn't been found in a reasonable amount of time, we went on to other things... but, not my mother! She would continue to look and look, and would not give up until she had found it!
This parable is one of three with the same theme: The Father's yearning love for the lost. It also reveals what our own attitude should be toward the lost.
In the illustration, the sinner is likened to a valuable coin that has been lost.
The coin in this parable was the equivalent of a day's wages. Since floors in that time and place were made of dirt, it could be very difficult to find!
Just as the woman needed light in her search for the lost coin, Jesus provides the light for sinners to be found of God.
"And when she had found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!' In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:9-10
Every soul is precious to God, and there is rejoicing in heaven over each one that repents. What did the woman do when she found her coin? She called her friends and neighbors, because she just had to share her good news!
This parable gives us the whole plan of salvation; and the reason Christ came.

Amen Susan. A nice post. The antique picture brings it home. I think it is always nice to post pictures when driving home a point.
I was blessed to have a colonoscopy today! Oh, it wasn't that bad. The prep the day before is the worst part. Good news is that they didn't find anything wrong except a small amount of diverticula. My aunts, grandmothers, and mom all had or do have it. I am very relieved because there had been indication that something might have been wrong. God is good and prayers are answered!
