WORD for Wednesday...AWESOME

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
--Gen. 1:1

*****

The Logos Bible Study group is just

beginning a study of creation and the

first eleven chapters of Genesis.

One of the wonderful things about

reading God's Word is that it is new and

fresh and exciting everytime you read it.

What an awesome God we love and serve!

*****

Shout with joy to God, all the earth!

Sing the glory of His name;

make His praise glorious!

Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds!

So great is your power

that your enemies cringe before you.

All the earth bows down to you;

they sing praise to you,

they sing praise to your name."

--Psalm 66:1-4

THOUGHT for Tuesday

Ah, brilliant humanity!
Look how far we've come!

2000 B.C. - Here, eat this root.

1000 A.D. - That root is heathen.
Here, say this prayer.

1850 A.D. - That prayer is superstition.
Here, drink this potion.

1940 A.D. - That potion is snake oil.
Here, swallow this pill.

1985 A.D. - That pill is ineffective.
Here, take this antibiotic.

2000 A.D. - That antibiotic is artificial.
Here, eat this root.

MOTTO for Monday..June 30

BLOOM WHERE YOU'RE PLANTED
***
'But blessed is the man who trusts
in the Lord,
whose confidence is in Him.
He will be like a tree
planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
it does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.'
Jeremiah 17:7-8

SCRIPTURE for Sunday

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning
to end. --Ecclesiastes 3:11

*******

You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens,
and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything,
and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
--Nehemiah 9:6

SONG for Saturday

There's not much I can add to this except "AMEN!"

Beautiful song, beautiful pictures, and best of all,

beautiful message! Enjoy!

FUNNY Friday

I thought you all might enjoy watching these

shots of Alan showing Amanda how to parallel park.

The last shot is Amanda doing it her way. Ha!

THANKFUL Thursday

***
Be thankful for TODAY.
***
Today is the tomorrow
you worried about yesterday...
...Was it worth it?
***
If you wish to be happy,
This is the way....
Don't live tomorrow
'Til you've lived today.

God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today.
Have you used one to say "Thank You"?

WORD for WEDNESDAY...SIMILES

Here's an assignment for anyone reading this blog................

Now, you might think I'm
NUTTY AS A FRUITCAKE,

but I'm compiling a list of similes (comparisons...
that have the word 'as' or 'like').
I need your help, so

QUICK AS A WINK, get
BUSY AS A BEE, and see how many comparisons
you can come up with. It's
EASY AS PIE, and I know you all are
SHARP AS A TACK; and some of you are
SMART AS A WHIP.

Put your list in the 'Comments' section,
or just send it to me in an email, if that's easier.

I'll be
PLEASED AS PUNCH and
HAPPY AS A LARK to see how many you come up with!

MOTTO for Monday..June 23

Even a
small
star
shines
in the
dark-
ness
.

What a beautiful sight I encountered last night when I walked out onto
the back porch, just before dark! Tiny little lights blinked on and off all over the back yard. Fireflies were everywhere! It was a breathtaking sight. How do they do that? If you've ever caught one in your hand, you realize that they are just ugly little bugs.

*****

Did you know that a normal electric light bulb only gives off 10% of its energy as light? The other 90% is wasted as heat. By comparison, however, just about 100% of a firefly's light is given off as light.

*****

How much light are we giving off? The same God who uses little bugs to provide such an amazing light show can use each one of us to shine forth His light in a dark world, if we let Him.

*****

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. --Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

SCRIPTURE for Sunday

Give thanks to the Lord,
call on his name;
Make known among the nations
what He has done.
Sing to Him, sing praise to him;
tell of all His wonderful acts.
--1 Chronicles 16:8-9

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given
Jesus Christ, His Son.
And now, let the weak say
'I am strong'...
Let the poor say
'I am rich'...
because of what the Lord
has done for us..........
Give thanks!
(words & music by Henry Smith)

FUNNY Friday.. (This one's for you, JUSTIN!)

Sorry, folks!

Looks like another chipmunk has escaped!

I'm afraid he's off to hear his friends perform in the

'Wooly Bully' concert! (4th song on playlist)

THANKFUL Thursday

I'm thankful that a friend, who just came through a very serious surgery,
received a good path report, and is now on the mend.
Thank You, Lord!

Psalm 118, a beautiful hymn of thanksgiving,
begins and ends with these words:
'Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His love endures forever.'

WORD for Wednesday...CREATIVITY

Definition: a mental process involving the
generation of new ideas or concepts, or
new associations of the creative mind
between existing ideas or concepts.

I prefer to think of creativity as a putting together of something (or many somethings) that exists, in a new or different way.

The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 1:10:

'Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"?
It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time.'

It's true, there's nothing totally 'new' in the universe. God alone is the 'Creator' who blesses us with our individuality, and allows us the joys of the creative process.

Quotes abound on the subject of 'creativity'..These are my picks:

'Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.' --Edward DeBono

'All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once one grows up.' --Pablo Picasso

'Creativity is a natural extension of our enthusiasm.' --Earl Nightengale

And my favorite...........

'Creativity is not the finding of a thing, but the making something out of it after it is found.' --James Russell Lowell

THOUGHT for Tuesday

Don't wish upon a star...
Talk to the One who made the stars.

Cast all your anxiety on Him
because He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

MOTTO for Monday..June 16

MEASURE TWICE...
............CUT ONCE

Not only a good rule for a carpenter or a seamstress, but a
great 'rule of thumb' for us all.

SCRIPTURE for Sunday..FATHER'S DAY

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.
--Romans 8:28 (KJV)

This was a verse I heard my father quote many times.
When I think of him, I think of Romans 8:28.
I thank God for the fine example my father set for
my sister and I.
He loved serving the Lord, his church and his family.
He was a man of few words, but great integrity;
a builder of beautiful homes and horse barns.

If you're reading this, and instead of happy memories, Father's Day is a day that evokes sadness because of an earthly father who may have disappointed you, I hope you'll direct your thoughts instead, to our loving Heavenly Father. If you are a child of His, you will never be disappointed or forsaken.

MY FATHER WATCHES OVER ME
I trust in God wherever I may be,
Upon the land or on the rolling sea,
For, come what may, from day to day,
My heav'nly Father watches over me.

Chorus

I trust in God, I know He cares for me,
On mountain bleak or on the stormy sea;
Tho' billows roll, He keeps my soul,
My heav'nly Father watches over me.
words: Rev. W. C. Martin..Music: Chas. Gabriel

SONG for Saturday..FLAG DAY

'I pledge allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one Nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'

You're a Grand Old Flag
by George M. Cohan

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

FRIDAY, JUNE 13th

B I L L !
Be sure to play your song on the PlayList! Sorry, it's not sung by 'Frank' or 'Marilyn', but I think you'll enjoy it!
I'm wishing you a wonderful day! You're the greatest!!
Love, Susan

THANKFUL Thursday

Today, I'm thankful for the beautiful songs of birds. We've counted
almost twenty different species of birds in our yard over the past
few months. The little guy up above is an Eastern Bluebird.

At the present time, the Woodthrush takes the prize for the prettiest
song. We see them off and on all during the year, but they only sing
from April through July.
*******
If you've ever read the 'Prayers of the Animals', you'll recognize this one.
It's from a collection which was translated from the French by Rumer Godden, many years ago.

PRAYER OF THE LITTLE BIRD

Dear God,
I don't know how to pray by myself
very well,
but will you please
protect my little nest
from wind and rain?
Put a great deal of dew
on the flowers,
many seeds in my way.
Make Your blue very high,
Your branches lissom;
let your kind light stay
late in the sky,
and set my heart
brimming with such music
that I must sing, sing, sing...
please, Lord.
AMEN

WORD for Wednesday.....KENNESAW!

AKA.............The best thing about 'going shopping' is spending time with friends....
'doing lunch', etc.

(unless we happen across a 90% off Sale,
then all bets are off!)

Just kidding!

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

THOUGHT for Tuesday

It isn't the mountain ahead
that wears you out--

it's the grain of sand

--Robert W. Service

MOTTO for Monday..June 9

This was found on an old trade (advertising) card from 1891. Although dated 117 years ago, it is still a good Motto for today!

A Motto For 1891.
_________

"My Presence Shall Go With Thee."
__________

May you ever be found Working, Waiting, Watching, Gathering,
Sowing or Watering Seed.---Even the hidden service of love is accepted by God; and it is our heritage, not only to be blessed, but to be made blessings to others.

SCRIPTURE for Sunday

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint." --Isaiah 40:31
**************
It is said that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks, and will fly to some high spot to wait for the winds to come.

When the storm hits, the eagle sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it. The eagle doesn't escape the storm, but simply uses the storm to lift itself higher and rises on the winds that bring the storm.

All of us face the storms of life at some time, but God can enable us to rise above them if our faith and trust are in Him.

Remember, it's not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it's how we handle them. --Author Unknown

SONG for Saturday

IN THE GARDEN

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

And He walks with me, and
He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet, the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.

And He walks with me, and he talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

--Words & music by C. Austin Miles, 1868-1946

FUNNY Friday

Someone has WAY too much time on their HAND(S).

THANKFUL Thursday

Can you even imagine life without MUSIC? I certainly can't!

Give thanks today for MUSIC.

Whether you're listening, singing, humming, whistling, or playing an instrument, it is a great source of enjoyment, and one of God's very special gifts to us.

Richter said it was 'the poetry of the air.'
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow called it 'the universal language of mankind.'
Sidney Lanier said 'Music is love in search of a
word.'

Take a few minutes out of your busy day; find a favorite song to listen to, then sit back and enjoy!

WORD for Wednesday....LAUGHTER

'LAUGHTER IS CONTAGIOUS.'

Could this little postcard from the 40's or 50's be the first attempt at texting? Seems that Mabel Lucie Attwell was well ahead of her time!
"U.R. ' A.1' --U.R.!"

'LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE!'

Research has shown health benefits of laughter can range from strengthening the immune system to reducing food cravings, and even increasing one's threshold for pain. Humor also has many stress relieving benefits.

This is not a new idea, though. Proverbs 17:22 tells us that

'a cheerful heart is good medicine.' (NIV)

It's the laughter that emanates from a cheerful heart, not just laughter, per se, that truly is the good medicine!

THOUGHT for Tuesday

Life is not measured
by the number of breaths we take,
But by the moments
that take our breath away.
